HJT and about:blank, dumb question

    Hallo all,
    I understand that about:blank is a pain in the butt-- or have I misunderstood?
    I had a look through hjt and found that when it is going to fix a hijacked homepage, it will use about:blank.
    so what's going on? or should I not worry my poor ole head bout it?

    What HijackThis does and what the about:blank hijacker does is not the same? After HJT fixes the R0 or R1 lines, you can just Reset Web Settings to defaults and then fix your home page to what you desire. With the about:blank hijacker, if you fix only the R0 & R1 lines and even if you Reset Web Settings to defaults and set your home page, the hijacker will just change it back to what they want. Quite often the R0 & R1 lines will change each time you attempt an incomplete fix or sometime even after a reboot.

    Thanks chaslang,

    I think I understand: once again, I don't actually have a problem, but with you good old boys to help, I feel secure now. up until I found MG, I didn't know what spyware was, or browser hijackers; now, I can run all my protection ware and sleep happy !

    Thermo was a boring course! I had lots more "phun" with physics. I even taught physics classes and labs for a while.

    Hi Chaslang,

    The weather here has settled down to "normal" wind and rain, yesterday we were hit by the "skirts" of Hurricane island, quite scary, especially when the high speed gusts of wind came along. the whole island was shut down, power off for most of the day.

    no personal damage suffered. I feel sorry for the folk in Grenada, who got the full blast of it. Jamaica is due to get it Friday.
