Geeks, take a look at this screenshot of my Win2k (SP4, all critical updates) registry. Are HKLM/ControlSet001 & 002 valid keys? If I drill down into them, the contents of these keys appear to be identical to HKLM/CurrentControlSet, leading me to wonder if they're old CurrentControlSet keys, left over from previous mobos (2) or a couple of OS reinstalls I did, especially considering M$ fondness for renaming old stuff with names ending in 001, 002, etc. Safe to delete (if possible) or no? Would definitely back up my registry first before I tried to...

    ControlSet001 is your current registry

ControlSet002 is your last known good configuration (It is synchronized with the current registry every time you do a succesful login, in case you cannot login succesfully, then you might be able to use last known good configuration at startup)

    HKLM/System/Select describes this.

OK, that makes sense, in Select I see that Current and Default are both 1, Failed=0, and LastKnownGood=2. What does CurrentControlSet do then?

CurrentControlSet is an alias for your current active registry.
