    Hey Guys.

I run a Counter-Strike Condition Zero server using a AMD [Athlon XP] Machine running gentoo linux [command line]. My problem is that recently HLDS(Half-Life Dedicated Server) Has been freezing randomly. But thats not the weirdest part.. HLDS freezes, but the rest of the computer still works! I can alt-# to a different commnad line, log in, open a file, and log out. Infact, i can even quit the server, and start it back up again without restarting the computer! I have set it to AutoUpdate, which should restart the server upon the vent of a crash, but it obviously doesn't, on account of the server is downs for hours on end.

Some things i have noticed are that the CPU Heatsink/fan gets very hot. I know this is normal for CPUs under load, especially older AMD's, but this is almost an OW-Hot. If I had to guess, I'd say 65-75 Degrees Celcius :)O). I have a nice-looking HSF on there... supposed to look like coppe, but it quite obvious it isnt. Can anyone reccomend anything to stop this problem? Below is some specs and such. Also, i'd like to add that this only just recently started happeneing, I've never had this problem in the almost 2 years ive run a server, but this is a new computer, witha a new OS...

    HLDS Startup command
    Code:
    ./hlds_run -console -game czero +sys_tickrate 100 -port 27021 -maxplayers 18 +map de_rats +exec server.cfg -autoupdate
    And my Server's System Specs:
    Code:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ NO OC
    512MB RAM PC2100
    400? Watt PS
    A-OPEN AK77 MoBo
Quantam Bigfoot 5.25" Series 12.7GB HDD
Gentoo Linux, command line [KDE installed, rarely used] (2.6.x)

Tell me if you need anymore Specs..

    Thanks ahead of time guys.

does the pc have the temp monitor function in the bios?

whats the cpu fan a doing running at max or low spd then hi spd?

as u know the cpu is near burn out at the temp u stated won't last long.

check for loose mount fan to cpu shut it down re-apply thermo grease fan to

cpu to heat sink etc see wht temp does then.

By the time I get into the bios, the CPU has allready cooled to 34-40 C, so this is not a very good way to show what the temps are on full lod... can someone reccomend to me a linux version of speedfan or such?

The CPU fan runs around 4800RPM consistently...

!! Systemp is 40C after reboot, prolly need more fans

EDIT: i just looked and after havin 5 people in there the CPU temp after reboot was 46C

try this link and maybe they can advise

    http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/support.xml

looking back at ur first post and the replys the temp in f degrees of 40 c is 104 and 46c is 114f so it's hot on the hi side but the stall and no restart sounds more like the software to hardware u may have a bug that the above link can help u with.

good luck let us know how it goes

thanks for the link, ill look around

i just added a system blower and a new(pure-copper) HSF, running at 6300RPM...

ive noticed that sice i removed the "+sys_ticrate 100" from the server it hasn't crashed... perhaps that was it?
