    ok guys
im getting a basically new pc for christmas
my mom and dad are buying me a new proccessor and MB
    and im buying the ram
    ive decided on the motherboard:
    http://www.epox.com.tw/eng/products_content.php?ps=230
75 canadian with only 7% tax rather than 15%. you cant go wrong!

ok for ram i can only spend about 60 bucks canadian so i decided on two of these: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=576572&CatId=147

and for processor i have chosen on the Sempron 2400+
    http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1050219

im just asking: is everything compatible? could i make this better and not go over my max budget ( 150 for processor and mobo, and 60 for ram), and has anyone had any problems with epox?

thnx in advance for your suggestions!

    Hi,

Well right off the bat I don't think that mobo supports sempron processesors, I could not find anything on the epox.com that says it does.

It says "Supports 462-pin Socket-A for AMD Athlon XP processors 1500+ to 3200+ with 266/333/400MHz FSB"

You should look into a Athlon xp barton core. and then we can discuss the ram.

I could not find that but I did not look that extensively, You might have to upgrade(flash) the bios to make the sempron work so you might want to look into that.

The rams a good deal and is compatible,

    good luck Rick

zulu I am a fellow canuck, for online stores to check out (if you hav'nt already) HL Technology in BC and ncix also in BC. I have spent quite a bit of cash at HL and have had no probs. I am in ontario and save on sales tax. Even with the shipping it is still cheaper than local stores. Just a thought.

From the Epox BIOS update page.....

    2004-07-29

    Version - 20040729

1)Patch Kingmax DIMM (MPWC22D-38KT3R-FBA) compatibility issue
2)Add show K7 Sempron CPU information on POST screen.
3)Patched some online game networking will be disconnected after running about 30 minites.
4)Solved PCI/AGP slot usage status reporting error on DMI
    5)Solved coding error.UDMA3 should be ATA44 not ATA66.
    6)Update Sil3112A ROM version to V4247(For 8RDA3+).

So yea I think the Sempron will be just fine.

Not sure about the Ultra memory. Not seen too much info about it.

P.S. I've bought alot of stuff from Tiger Direct & I've not ever had a problem with them, but I would take that advice given & look around some more. One thing I always try to do when buying things online, is to get everything I can from one place. Helps cut down taxes & shipping costs.
