No Kidding! If the old Sentra didn't need $2500 worth of repairs we would have stuck it out for a while longer, but I guess 328000 km is not bad.

Don'tcha just hate car salesmen. (Apologies to any on the board)

The guy said he had 4 in the area. We gave him a deposit, even. He phoned this week to say they had all gone. I guess he's trying to get us to buy a '05 instead of a '04. The interest rate is almost double, so he can forget it.

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

I just stay with my ole pickup...sort of a family heirloom...

Besides the insurance would just eat my meager finances up.

i hope you didn't take that the wrong way, i wasn't making fun of your disappointment...just the irony of being lied to by a car salesman. aloha. (I'm sure you'll find an even better one)

    Mr P ... that just sucks... :(

As you gave a deposit and possibly signed a contract, dont you have the law on your side or at least shame them ito giving you a new one at the price you agreed?

I mean he told you he had a car at that price for you (1 of 4 he said ) and you did the deal on that info.... now he comes back and says they dont have one..... conjours up two scenario's
    1. He didnt positively check and allocate that car to you... in that case he's an F/wit or
    2. He was playing one of those sales tricks to get you to trade up as you liked the car so much and that is damm right sneaky!

I would have gone to his boss and complained or better still the Toyota company and tell them the shady or slack methods one of there franchised dealers is upto.

I love to haggle with car dealers ..... its fun.... I do a bit of recearch first on prices and loan %'s online car showrooms are a great place to get some idea of discounted rates from list price on the cars you like.. print all the info out so you have it to hand ( I even take it out of my pocket and ask to borrow a pen so I can jot a few of the prices the dealer is telling me about there deal ... basically so he can see I have done research into prices ) plus if you have a trade in car ... then have a copy of a popular motoring magazine on the back seats ( make it look like you have really read it *rough it up abit* ) .. dealers are always looking for the easy mark... someone who is not upto speed... by showing them you have recearched they dont bull***t you as much.

oh and the piece de la resistance ... if you have some online car prices and a low interest % and your willing to stick with those.... turn the tables on the dealer and say ..... "If you can match these then we have a deal and I will sign now? take his or your own pen like you are ready to sign" a little bit of "I gotta talk to my manager" will go on BUT doing this saved me £1500 on my last car and on my new one this year saved me wait for it £4000

    :)

It definitely pays to do your research on any major purchase. Too many consumers go unprepared...car dealers tend to take advantage way too often....do the homework.
