Trying to share files between my gf's pc running winxp 64 and my new build on windows 7. I set up a homegroup under Windows 7 and wasn't able to see it on the winxp computer.

Then I tried setting the Xp up with an MShome name and couldn't see it on Windows 7.

I've looked elsewhere but you guys are the best at dumbing it down for me....where exactly do I need to go and which pc do I start with? I've never set up a home network before. Thanks.

After the step of making sure they're both members of "WorkGroup" it says I should be able to see the XP machine on Win 7 under network. That is not happening for me.

We've both got file sharing turned on, firewall is set to allow file/printer sharing, we're both under "workgroup" and both sharing the same wireless connection.

    Any other ideas?

Was the XP machine always in the group "workgroup" or have you made changes to it? It just worked for someone else here to turn off sharing, reboot, turn on sharing again.
