home network - cannot remember login or password

Yesterday both my computers upgraded to WIndows 8.1, much to my annoyance and now I cannot get the computers to recognise each other. It says there is no homegroup, and unfortunately I cannot remember the login names or passwords for each computer as it has been done automatically now for some 18 months. How can I find these out, or can I start over?

 

Don't mean to doubt what you're saying, but I don't think the upgrade to 8.1 is automatic. It's something that must be consciously selected and installed. I am set up for automatic Windows updates and 8.1 doesn't even download. In any case, I do not believe this site will provide any information related to defeating passwords.

 

I must been having a senior moment when the advice came up on the screen and told it to go ahead and install.
Fortunately I have been able to fix the problem myself.
