I have been starting quite a few threads on this forum now. All problems seem to appear at once :(

    The problem here is:
I have installed my BT Voyager router on a windows 2000 computer downstairs. The internet works all fine. On another computer in the house I installed the BT Voyager network adapter 1055, on an XP OS. The internet works fine on both computers but I cannot create a network (file transfer, printer use, etc.). It would appear to be easy (wireless network set-up wizard) but for some reason windows 2000 doesn't appear to be compatible with this BT Voyager 1055.

I have been using both, the manual method and the USB method for setting up the network. On the USB method an error comes up when I transfer the configuration to the Win 2000. However, when I try to use the manual method, an error comes up. First attachement.

Is a Win 2000 computer not compatible with XP? Or if not, what might be the problem? :(

Question for you. When you say that you cannot create a network do you mean that you the two computers can't see each other? Can you ping the machines from each other?

Go to Start then Run. Type CMD in the open box and hit enter. In the black box that shows up on the screen type "ping computername" where computername is the name of the other computer. Try doing this on both machines and let me know if you recieve a responce from the other machine.

You only have two computers right? One Windows 2000 and one Windows XP.

I've done that, no ping. I also can't see the other computer in the "My network places" folder.
Yes, I only have these 2 computers that I want to connect to the network. I've also got a xp pro OS laptop but I don't want to include it. The internet runs fine on it though.

This might be lame, but do all computers have the same workgroup name? Right-click My computers > Properties > Computer Name.

What are the workgroup names in the computers? If they are different on the computers, change it so they are the same by clicking the "change" button that says something like "change computer name...."

When you say you can't ping, what is the message it gives?

When you do ping, try it by both computername and ip address.

Also, the wireless network setup wizard is for setting up wireless connections, not wireless LANs. The SOHO wizard is for setting up sharing in LANs. There is a link for it in Network Connections in the Control Panel.

@tech--Workgroup names are organizational names for the network, they don't affect any type of networking problems, unless the different workgroups have different permissions, and I daresay thats not a factor here.

For example, My Mac definately is not in my Windows workgroup, yet can access any of the windows machines by smb://"ip address".

They can also access me by \\"ip address".

You're right of course, but maybe if the permissions were set, it would be easier to explain the workgroup?

Just my $.02 which is worth what you paid for it :)

I changed the workgroup to the same name but when I run netsetup on the windows 2000 after having created a Home Network setup disk on my XP I get an error saying that Home Network is only available on win 98, 98 ME, etc. Win 2000 is not mentioned. Is there any other way around this? It's really irritating.

I don't know what else to try and I'd really like to get this working, any ideas?
