Home network password?

Since 'upgrading' from xp to 7 I can't swap files between computers. I get a pop up box asking me for passwords and usernames.
What password and user name is it asking for?
I have two comps on 7 and one on vista.

 

The username and password on the computer that you are trying to access. If you have the same username and password on both, when you try to access a share that that user has access to, you will not be asked for the password & username. Also make sure that Simple Filesharing is enabled on the XP machine.

 

As easy as that huh?
Oh dear, I don't think i'll do so good in the code cracking business!
One other thing, what about printer sharing?
My daughter has a 7 laptop, will she be able to use printer sharing without me keep having to put my password in or is the password only needed for accessing files?

As long as she has the same username and password on both machines, no problem. As for the printer, share with "Everyone", you will have no problems. It is easier to get a network capable printer for network printing, due to with a shared printer, that computer has to be on, that the printer is physically connected to.

 

But with a guest account on my main machine there is no passwrod is there?
As long as no password is needed for the printer then that is fine, she ahs no real need to access my files.
You are right, a network printer would be better but mine prints cd's and I haven't seen a network one that does this, unless you know different.............
