About a week ago I lost my internet connection so I powercycled my modem. I noticed that my taskbar notification had changed so I opened Network and Sharing Center and there was an unidentified public network so I called my ISP and was told that a LAN and Wireless network enabled could cause conflict. When I disable the LAN I get a limited connection. I hope someone can help guide me to a solution. Thank you!

Can't say 100% with this info bt 99% of the time, the login or verification info for your ISP comes via LAN from your first device. By disabling the LAN on your computer, you disabled the login for the ISP.

I would be curious what conflict they are referring to? Did they say more, like an IP conflict maybe? The solution for that should be to change ranges, not disable a network.

So it's correct to have both the LAN and wireless network both enabled? Screenshots attached.

The HP computer is hardwired to my modem Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Not sure if ISP was referring to the other computers and devices on my wireless connection or the HP connection. Sometimes I don't get the best results with any support companies...

I have a Vista PC in the bedroom with adapter, Laptop with built in wireless card, Windows 7, Dish reciever with adapter connected to internet and 2 Droids connected to my network.

Also, change the ranges in the properties of the wireless and also the LAN connection? If so how can I do that?

Sorry about that, I was thinking LAN and wireless enabled on the router but you mean LAN and wireless both active on your computer at the same time.

The ISP is right, you can't have LAN and wireless connecting on your computer on the same time. You can't disable the LAN if the computer is the device controlling the login for the modem, as I said. Disable the wireless on that computer

If you continue to see an unknown network after this, please let us know.

You should be able to change the connection metric for each connection so it defaults to the type that you want to use. Lower number is the default.

Yes, Handygal. So, I can't change metric as Ibmest suggested if I disable the wireless connection on this hardwired computer right?

I went ahead and changed the metric connection for both LAN and Wireless connections. I restarted my computer. I clicked on currently connected to in the taskbar and found I am connected to the LAN. Wireless network connection showed limited so I chose disconnect and the wireless automatically connected. I will attach results of above and command prompt ipconfig/all.
