Hi guys. I am running 2 machines, both equipped with windows XP. They are connected via a DLink router. I am trying to network the 2 machines together. I ran the windows xp network setup, assigning them both to a workgroupcalled 'Home'. But for some reason, Machine B can see Machine A, see the files, etc. But Machine A cannot see Machine B. But I can ping it from the IP address or the name of the machine. But I can't see that machine as being part of the workgroup. When I look at the workgroup computers on either machine, it only lists Machine A and not Machine B.

I have disabled all firewalls. The machine has Norton antivirus, so I am not sure if that would have something to do with it.

I just can't figure out why machine a can ping it, but can't see it as part of the workgroup. On machine B, I can look at the properties for that machine and see that it does say its part of the 'Home' workgroup.

I tried to take it out of that workgroup again and try the same setup. I got the same issue. It seems like its something small, but I don't know what.

    Any suggestions?

Some information I forgot to mention...

I have shared the C drive on both machines. Machine A is running XP Pro. Machine B (which is the one that can't be seen) is running XP Home. Both machines have IPs on same scheme, 192.168.0.XXX. And both have same subnet mask and default gateway.

What is the Naming convention for computer A & B? Are they the same name? If so that maybe your problem. I am not talkin about the name of the workgroup, but the actual computer name. Renaming the Workgroup to Home is still a workgroup. So try checkin the name of the computers, and if they are the same then change the name on one of the Pc's.
