I was looking at the security section here & found "Harden IT".
Does anyone know why the app won't load 4 me? :confused
Do I need more component's? I'm running : XP Pro SP3. (again) rolleyes

All I want to do is strengthen my rig & it's security, as does most people I guess. Do U know of any good app's out there...? other than Avast, Spybot & comodo.

IMO it has gotten to a point now where if you are the type (like me) who likes to bumble around websites and try various app's & prog's, watch vid's, play the odd game, you are NEVER going to be 100% safe at all, and your never going to get close without seriously hampering your web experience, cos lets face it windows is like a sieve, flash and java will always be exploited, active x will be active x, so my philosophy these days is run a good AV and firewall (namely Kaspersky and comodo) scan with MBAM and be prepared to wipe and reinstall by always having my data backed up, if i do get infected.

I also have a seperate computer that runs linux and only gets used for official stuff like banking and credit card purchases, etc.

I think people who use the PC they randomly surf on, to bank and even store c-card numbers are mad! but i am a bit paranoid so.... meh

Although the best firewall is a hardware firewall! [i will be investing in one soon]


And as for an AV....

Kaspersky has a free 30 day trial, WHICH they ever so kindly point out can be obtained more than once "if you would like to test it further" by using a different email to get the download link

I have three-3yr licenses but i often run more than three machines so i frequently take advantage of the free trials for mroe than a month
