homegrown bmx

www.homegrownbmx.com tell me what you guys think. its about bmx obviously but i figured i could use some thoughts about how to improve and such. remember... its still kind of a new site, so the media is still not as full as it will be

 

All the content is fine , I'm just not usually a fan of borders ( I beleive thats what there called [ The one that stays constantly ] ) , But other than that its nice.

Also it does'nt all seem to fit together properly.. Dont know why. I think its just the design in general.

Not bad Everyone has their own opinion and you asked so here is mine. Please don't take it personally cuz it's not intended as such. ok?

Things just don't seem to 'blend' together very well. It's all boxy and split up looking. A more simplistic look with a nice flow would be more effective. In other words, when looking at the page the eye should easily flow from one thing to the next. The way you have it now it's more over powering or an up in your face kind of page...the images detract from one another making it difficult to focus on any one thing.

I could try to explain further but I'll wait and see if anything I said makes sense to you first..LOL

Oh..and your little 'tag-line' at the bottom of the page...a big thumbs down on that. Stuff like that dumbs down a website & hurts it's credibility IMO.

what would you suggest for more "flow" because i have problems flowing things.

 

OK...I'll try to explain it as best I can. I like your header but I would make a couple changes to it. I would make it a little wider so it doesn't look quite so boxy and use an edge mask to fade the right and left edges to white so it blends in with your white background. I would also change the font to fit your theme a little better. For example head on over to dafont.com and under the script category check out the brush, trash & graffiti fonts. Tip: In the custom preview box type HomeGrown BMX so you can see what it looks like.

Another thing is the image you have on the far left of the page. I like that too but it's just dark enough that it pulls the eye away from the rest of the page. I would lighten it enough so that you can still see it but not so much that you can't tell what it is.

Those are the two main things I would start with and then see how it looks and go from there. That might be enough to help you get the 'flow' going.

[EDIT] The important thing to remember is this is YOUR page. While we can offer suggestions or ideas it's important that it remain 'yours' for you to really enjoy it. I have other ideas for your image presentations but you first need to pull the 'main' features together. Also, it's likely others will chime in with their ides/suggestions too! [/EDIT]

 

Just my opinion try a background with a semi repeating pattern at 45 degress-BMX's mid trick as a stereotypical example,change the 'u' to an 'e' in your slogan,kids ride BMX's,kids computers also have parental controls

 

what is an edge mask? you mean just fade the sides to white?

 

Yes...try it to see how it would look...only thing is you really won't know if it will do the trick until it's all put together.

One thing that might still throw it all off is the black line you have on the left. If it was me I'd play around with that a bit too...If you want the separation try making it thinner, 1 pixel or a lighter shade of black so it's not so harsh looking. Just a thought anyway...this is really tough...if I had my puter put back together I could show you where I'm going with this rather than trying to explain it...would be much easier.
