All I want to do is hook another computer up to mine to share the internet connection.
I just need it temporary, long enough to do the windows updates.
Can I do it with a cable or usb?
Mine is running WinXP with 1.5 gig processor, 512 ram and a dsl connection.
    The other is Win 98.
    Thanks.

if you have ethernet ports on them, you could use them to network the computers. You could get some sort of usb network adapter.

It would probably just be easier to have one do it, then have the other do it. If you network them in some way, it will take a while and probably cost you.

I say you should just have 1 do the updates, then hook the dsl to the other and have it do the updates.

    Yea,
I was just looking for a way to do do it without pulling this desk out and weasling back in there.
I want to do a wireless network too eventually.
I live in a block house but I will only have to have the signal travel about 25 feet.
Do you think that will work?

I find the easiest way to temporarily hook 2 machines together is with a crossover cable, no need for a hub etc. then, you just connect them up and manually set the NIC IPs to suitable temporary values and it's done. http://gccprinters.com/support/doc/crossover.html

You may also need to insert a floppy to copy the setup info from the XP machine to the win 98.
