Short story, I appear to have an incompatible driver that is causing the "Host Process for Windows has Stopped" error. I also occasionally get the "Pipe state is invalid" one too. Don't get either of these in Safe Mode. Don't appear to have malware. Don't know how to find out which driver is causing this.

I don't know if no one has replied because they just don't know, or if they think I shouldn't have posted this problem in the hardware forum. Just to clarify, plodr told me to post this here.

Ran Driver Booster (had to run it in Safe Mode as I got the pipe state was invalid stuff again), and rebooted. It appears to have fixed the problem. I will use the laptop a bit and see if it's true. fingers crossed

    I'll let you know.

If it is working, I suggest to run a program to collect all the proper drivers and archive them either on a CD, a USB stick or an external hard drive so if you need to reinstall a driver, you will have one that you know works.
