    i have a q9400
    16g of 1066 ram
    gtx 465
with no load my proc cores run 58, 54, 53, 55 (all these are in centigrade) (thats 28 processes according to task manager)
if i play a game that was made after 2003 it shuts down,
my computer room is about 70-75 degrees f
i have to put a box fan next to an open side of the case to drop the temp by 6-7 degrees c
what is the best way to cool my proc down

i have put new thermal paste on the fan
    i bought a coolermaster case with 6 120mm fans
do i need to get a watercooler or what is best i can't imagine pushing warm air faster is going to help it.

right now i have 4 tabs open in chrome, utorrent, etc I am running 38 process with temps of 81,76, 79, 76 (all in centegrade)

Is that the stock HS/F that you got with the CPU? That is insane heat man!:eek I have to ask, did you slather on the compound like peanut butter or is it just the pre-applied pad there? You also may have not affixed the HS/F properly to the motherboard, I did that once.

aye it is the stock one
i did not slather, pea sized drop and the pressed with the HS
the fan is mounted to the mobo by 4 twist lock pins 3 actually worked the last i wouldn't stay locked
    what do you recommend
when i convert video to dvd format for burning the temp goes to 106
is water cooling more effective than fan/air cooling?

Nah, get that last pin in first before you even start thinking of something else. That's your issue right there if you haven't overclocked too. Get that fixed first, unlock all pins and go diagonal when locking them back. Tons of youtube videos out there if you're not sure.

EDIT: Yes watercooling is more effective but is also expensive and a PITA. Stop using your machine for heavy stuff. Heat kills CPU's.

the 4th pin is broken and unable to lock
    i will investigate watercooling

Check the closed watercooling loops like the Corsair H60 or an air heatsink like the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+, both of which will do you fine, I've got both running ATM with my OC'd madness at less than 70C and at full load running 24/7.:major
