I have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600), Dell Inc. Dimension 4700 , IE 6, SP2,

    3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
    16 kilobyte primary memory cache
    1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
160.03 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
153.33 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

In the Downloaded Programs, Hotmail Attachments Control is shown with Total Size of None.

If I right click it and use update, nothing happens. When I right-click and try to remove it, I get a message box. In the Title Bar it shows Share Violation, and in the box itself it shows: These Program Files are currently being used by one or more programs. Please close some programs and try again. You may need to restart Window.

When I right click and go to Properties, on the Dependency Tab, it says Damaged. How may I remove this?

I had installed a new firewall recently -- COMODO-- but this was happening before the installation.

I did a SFC /scannow, but that did not help

    Any input will be appreciated.

My guess, as I haven't used the program in quite a while, would be an active X. They are listed in three places that I know of off hand, Internet Options in Control Panel under the General tab click Settings, then View Objects, also in Internet options under the Programs tab click Manage Add-ons, and in My Computer, Local Disk C:, WINDOWS, Downloaded Program Files. I would try an uninstall, run ccleaner in cleaner and issues modes. Then reinstall the program. I would leave the programs folder in Documents and Settings, User Name, Application Data folders as it would hold saved information regarding the program. You should be able to delete the active X with a right click and choose delete, or disable it. You could also boot into safe mode (F8 while booting) and try to delete it that way. It may also be malware. I would start by running Spybot and a-squared in safe mode, after updating the programs, if malware is suspect. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
If you aren't running an anti-virus program you should be. http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads29.html, AntiVir, Avast, and AVG are a few good freeware programs.

Thank you, Bug, for your reply.

It is an active X control. It is used in Hot Mail to attach pictures.

I can remove every other active X control in the Local Disk C: WINDOWS, Downloaded Program Files, except the Hot Mail Attachments Control. (I usually get there by going to Tools, Internet Options, Setting, and View Objects) When I right click on it, I get – update, remove, properties. When I try to update it, it does nothing, and when I try to remove it, I get the Share Violation message box

I tried removing it in Safe Mode, but would get the same Share Violation message box . While in Safe Mode, I ran Ccleaner, Spybot, Ad aware, AVG Antispyware and Antivirus. I have Avast also but that did not find anything.

I had emailed Hot Mail about it and this is what they told me: (I have a new name now – Mckuen) :) Included with my signature is a quote by Rod McKuen.

Maybe if, when I can, I do a Windows Repair, it might help?
