    Do ya got new keyboard,
    Maybe this helps:
    Quote:
This utility seems to get installed with the software that comes with the type of keyboards called "Internet keyboards", and in most cases is associated with an icon in the System Tray. It would seem that its purpose is to enable the end-user to program certain key combinations or function keys to do specific tasks, or access specific sites, while browsing the Internet. We do not know much more than that, except that in many instances a bug in the software prevents the use of the keyboard in DOS session windows !!

    Recommendation :
Either uninstall the keyboard software which installed this program (via the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Control Panel), or disable it with The Ultimate Troubleshooter. It is better to use the Netscape Bookmarks or Toolbar Buttons feature, or Internet Explorer’s Favorites, than expose yourself to a program which seems quite buggy.

i would imagine it enables certain "features" of your keyboard. you can uninstall it via Add/Remove programs like Asus posted, or disable it in msconfig.

ive only got the same keyboard that came with the puter. it doesnt always appear. there is nothing in add/remove that sez 'hotkey'. the closest i can see is something thats called 'multimedia keyboard driver'. i dont know what that is, or whether it has anything to do with 'hotkey keyboard'. right click doesnt show 'properties' on either. i dont know what you mean by using XP or W2K, in my system processes i have 'zhotkey.exe'. aloha and goodmorning.

He meant HE uses XP and Windows 2000. Don't worry about it.

Okay, so go to Services (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services) and look down the list for a Hotkey (or ZHotkey) service. If you find one, double click it and set the Startup type: Disabled. Then reboot. If everything's fine and the icon isn't there, congrats. If anything's wrong, go back to Services and set the Startup type: to Automatic. You can do all of this with the mouse, so if trying to get rid of the thing disables the keyboard, you'll still be fine to get back there and reset the Hotkey service. It's a safe experiment, in other words.

Okee dokee. Let's try a different solution, since it's a running app executable, and not a service.

Download a tiny startup-manager program by clicking the live link below.

You don't have to install it or anything else. Just unzip it to a folder of your choice, run it (double-click the name of the file), and it will show you all of the excutable apps that are launched at startup. The list will include the ZHotkey.exe file. Click that, then click the red X in the toolbar. That doesn't uninstall or remove the program. All it does is make it NOT START when you boot. If you reboot now, and all's well and the icon's gone, you're laughing. If anything isn't just right, use your mouse to get back to the program and click ZHotkey.exe and click the green checkmark and reboot and the program will launch.

If you like the program, keep it with my compliments. If you don't like it, just delete the file. It won't even leave anything in your registry.

it only appears when windows hasnt been shut down 'properly'. ran your program, so i will 'close it. shut the open windows, switch off without logging out, restart and see if it comes back. as you can see i can still use my key board at this point. lol. :)

well it didnt reappear, so thanks. i think it was on my puter when i bought it, as the search dates it to before i bought it. i wonder what it was supposed to do. when i tried to maximise it, it would 'fly off' to the middle of the screen before disappearing. if i then minimised it it would 'fly back'. very stange! anyway many thank wizewiz. hope your day is going well.

Sorry LaurieB, I meant to say I'm using XP & w2k OS (it's dual boot rig) I did not intend to confuse.

    Thanks Wisewiz for correcting.

Good Luck LaurieB, If I think of any thing else that might help I'll post it.
