Hotkeys/Typing

Have what I think is a hotkeys problem in Windows 7. Tried a separate keyboard, and I still have the problem, so I know it's not the keyboard. Also, checked in Control Panel and hotkeys are off.

The biggest problem is that I cannot type. The keyboard is completely useless. However, this seems to be slightly different than the normal hotkeys problem with typing. I tried to start sfc /scannow using an Admin Command Prompt, but all I got was something like this ^f for f and so on. Additionally, not all of the letters worked...only about half. In Firefox, almost every key is tied to a hotkey, and no letters work. In Notepad, no letters work, either.

Problem manifests itself in a number of other ways. Scroll wheel in Firefox adjusts zoom. This also happens with icons on the desktop sometimes. Also, when I clck on a file to open it, it doesn't open, it just highlights. If I click on it again it will open, but it stays highlighted so that highlighting another file later and opening it will also open the first one.

Haven't run across this before, so I'm not sure what to do. It seems like a hotkeys problem, and it also seems like a stuck key, but I know it's not the keyboard. Maybe it's a Windows thing, but I have tried all the Windows fixes. I can restore an image, but I was hoping to avoid that if possible, so thanks for any help.

 

I can't see what alternative you have to restoring an image. I've been trying to come up with some way to start OSK but no go. My money is on malware.

 

Thanks, Earthling. It was just like one minute everything was fine and the next it was not...just like the sticky keys issue or a stuck key. I have never seen the scroll wheel zoom icon size on the desktop like this. It's actually sort of cool, but can't work without a keyboard.
