Hotmail Inbox Synchronisation Problem In Outlook

I am currently using Outlook 2003 to receive my emails.

I have hotmail and my ISP account configured.

My Hotmail account is over 5 years old, so I know the problem I am having is not related to the free account issue.

It seems that when I try to open my hotmail folder in outlook it takes ages. when I click send/receive I get the following error message:

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error (0x80004005) : 'Outlook's request to the server failed.
    The server responded ''. '

I'm positive that the majority of my email is downloading, but I can't seem to get rid of this error message. Sometimes when I open the hotmail folder it makes outlook hang to the point where a restart is neccessary....

I regularly (daily) get rid of all the junk in my inbox/spam/deleted/junk mail folders and I have just done a complete clean up of my pc....

    Any Ideas???

    Hi

Do you have Norton Antivirus installed?

    If so try the following;

    Does it now work ok?

If not try turning off the Office Plugin

    Hi there,

Nope, I haven't got Norton. I use Panda Platinum 2007. I'm also getting a popup for a malicious software removal wizard that's driving me crackers too!
it appears sporadically for no reason. Also sometimes when I have searched in google a netster page comes up when I select the item that I want! I have scanned with adaware, spybot, panda, CCleaner and McAfee AVERT Stinger and none of them find any spware or anything untoward.... any ideas???

Try going directly to your Hotmail account and delete any messages in the inbox or saved that might be there, especially those with attachments.

And, just following up on Halo's post, did you used to have Norton's installed?

I don't recall having norton ever, I have a HP DV2175EA laptop that I am having this problem with. Although it's possible that it could have been installed when I first bought the laptop...

Hotmail is setup correctly in outlook, it seems that all of my email downloads, I just get this error message...

I have a few messages stored on hotmail, but none of them have attachments.....

Is the Panda Platinum the Internet Security package?

    Try disableing its script blocking, to do this follow the below;

also try this via Outlook in disabling the New Email notification, to see if the error disapears.

    Halo,

    You're a Genius!

You have succeeded where Panda techies and Microsoft techies failed....

Thank you very much. Greatly appreciated.

Hey my pleasure, just for my curiosity and reference in case we have this particular issue again, which one of the two options was it or was it both?

But glad its working for you :)

But if its the script blocking option, do from time to time turn it back on after a panda update to see if they have ironed out this quirk, as script vunerabilities via emails can happen, but I would also imagine you practice safe email protocols in only opening emails and attachments from known persons.

I did both initially, but put the outlook settings back and it still works, so it must just be panda...

I have another 3 tasks if you're up for it....

    1) I keep getting a popup for a malicious software removal tool that I can't get rid of. I've run adaware, spybot, cc cleaner, trendmicro housecall and the panda active scan... none move it....

    2) When I search in google then select the page I want, occasionally "netster" pops up and I can't stop it.....

    3) When my laptop is stood doing very little (i.e. like when reading a long post on a forum etc...), a murmur from the laptop can be heard, similar to the sound of a DVD drive lens moving.... It might be normal, but it diesn't seem it, and I can't recollect it happening before...

My laptop is a HP DV2175EA just for the record....

If you can cure these 3 then you are definately worthy of god like status!!!

    Thanks:) :) :)

Hi think you need to pop the above info into a new thread in the Malware forum as well as following the below guide and attaching the requested logs onto your new thread in malware once you have completed the steps below as I suspect from what you just mentioned and especially in Netster as its an aggressive malware search engine infection.

and the guys in Malware are the best at removing these things :)

Our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
