I'm trying to make it so that the kids here 4 - 6 years old can't get to http://www.dailygames.com. However you do it, it doesn't have to be secretive or anything, they're not going to know what happened anyhow.. What I mean is that I don't care if there's a message that says "This site has been blocked" or anything... Mada said something about editing a text file and redirecting... That would be fine. :major

In c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc, there is a file called "hosts"

If you open it in notepad, you see a file like this:

    Code:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
Now, at the bottom, you could type something like

    Code:
    127.0.0.1 dailygames.com
Which tells your web browsers to try to download the dailygames.com webpages from your own computer! (Which doesn't have the files!) Unless you've setup a webserver on your computer, you should get an error page stating that the requested files could not be found.

:D You can get a little creative if you like. If you get the right IP address (127.0.0.1 is only one of billions), you can make requests for daily games go to different places. If you used 74.86.201.220, for example, they would be taken to majorgeeks.com instead when they typed in dailygames.com

Should work, but I didn't include the www. part in my previous examples, which is necessary. (Sorry all)

Probably a good practice to clear temp files as well.

THere are also several 3rd party filter programs you can use.

I just got up, so I apologize that I can't thinkof the one I used for friends of mine of the top of my head... still sipping the first cup of coffee.....

while I am typing, let me open a new tab and see if I can locate it. it works erally well and you can give it a list of sites to block and also have it block by ratings as well...

I think that I used K9 Web Protection... I installed it a few months back for them, and now I'm having a dickens of a time remembering which one I used...

If you want to see what else is out there, go ahead and google "Free Internet Filter"

At one point, I owuld have been the one standing here tlaking about how paretns should just be there with their kids when they surf, but we all know that it doesn't always work out that way.

    Hope this helps some :)
