How can I empty my RAM?

Hello all on Major Geeks forum.

Can someone tell me is there a way to free up RAM...basically just release/empty it with some kind of command rather than having to restart my PC?

When using music sequencing software there will be some bad glitches in the sound when samples are being triggered for the first time...I am certain that this is because the RAM is full and the glitch occurs while whats already held in RAM is being cached to the page file.

you can download a free application to free up your ram and if you leave it running in the background it will monitor and free up ram at the settings you input

That's brilliant, thanks BILLMCC66! I ahd seen some of these RAM release programmes in my search for an answer, but was wondering if there's a way to do it manually without having to install a prog?

Microsoft is supposed to do it for you, but I second the vote for FreeRam XP Pro. Despite the name it will work on other MS Os'es.

Wont vouch for its' use on Vista though as I don't know anyone using it on Vista. It certainly works for me on XP Pro (SP2). :cool despite many saying it is not required for XP. Bazza

 

I use a program called Instant memory cleaner
(not sure if I can link here, but here it is, my apologies if you cannot link to outside sites, INSTANT MEMORY CLEANER DOWNLOAD It allows you to clean your memory out with about 3 clicks and you can easily choose weather or not to load it on start up. It also shows you based on color what percentage of your memory is being use. Don't forget that it takes up almost no RAM on its own
