    Hi all,

    I have browsed for the answer to this, but I can't see anything yet!

    I have an XPSP2 HE platform and I need to achieve the following;

    2 users - one with limited rights, the other Administrator rights

    On powerup, I need a specific app to launch automatically, but it must not be acessible by the limited rights user. (The program can be easily upset by fiddlingv or accidental closure)

    My admin profle should be the only one to have access to it.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Right now it is kind of as I need it...but only if I log in. I am not always at this site and it must deal with power outages etc all by itself.
    What I've tried so far.
    I clicked right on START and opened all users. I went to the startup dir and I placed a shortcut in there. This didn't work on cold bootup (in that the app didn't launch).
    I added it to startup in my profile and it will launch successfully - but only when I log in. I don't always know of the restart, nor do I always have access to do so.
    Can I get the system to do this?
    Appreciate any help!
    Hi
    Does this applications installer give you when installing the option of for "all users" or "just this user"?
    As you have XP Home then you will need to start in safe mode to the admin account to see the Security tab (off hand think its the full tab and options), warning is be careful what you click as denying the wrong account can cause your PC not to run, so would be inclined to backup your PC first, Could use the 15day trial of Acronis True Image 2009 (need to make the bootcd as one of first steps) to create and image file.
    Possible is to add the limited users account via permissions as deny for that application, try this right click the application (or actually the whole applications folder in Program Files) thats not ment to be opened by limited user and choose Properties > Security > click Edit > Add > Advanced > Find Now and choose the limited users account from the list then click OK > OK and on next screen you can click Deny in the Full Control box and Apply.
    I'm thinking maybe try creating a custom task via Task Scheduler... or maybe even better to run program as a service.
    Thank-you both for the replies.
    I will have access to the said PC perhaps later today, so <Halo> I will try your suggestions out.
    It is a conundrum indeed - I hope I can sort it out!
    Thanks so much for your help!
