How can I remove Windows Media Player?

After a new install of XP my WMP wouldn't play any videos even the .wmv's.
While trying to remove it I got a handful of files deleted but when i try to delete others they go for a few seconds and then come back.
I tried to reinstall WMP but it won't over a prev install.
I've tried a handful of the removal progs here with no luck.

Maybe you just needed a codec pack?

 

I assume that .wmv files should play. I have DivX and Xvid codes as these are what the videos are rendered in as I made the vids myself. Now when I click on them the music plays but not the video. seems like a codec problem to me also. Now the WMP and the Real Player I installed wont play video just sound. Huh? I had just upgraded my system and installed the same copy of XP that I've had on the old box which played videos just fine.

So as I managed to delete some of the WMP files others won't delete and now I can't reinstall it and it crashes when I try to play anything on it.

I have seen numerous posts on this site on the removal of WMP 10. All answers are predicated on the assumption that somewhere on your machine a previous loading of WMP 9 is lurking. At some point Nine disappeared from my desktop, as
a consequence I cannot "roll-back" WMP 10. As I preferred to use Nine has anybody any simple solutions other than a reinstall of XP. I have tried tinkering with the registry and even reloaded SP2 in the belief that this would reload Nine, all to no avail.

Finally it's good to be a member of this Forum and I look forward to some interesting discussions and a major speed-up of my learning curve.
