How can I stop this happening!

Hi,

Everytime I do a windows task, for example click on My Computer, the screen is displayed and then the windows Calculator loads up. This happens everytime I open a windows folder?

Any suggestions on how to stop this?

I am not sure if you have other issues that are actually causing this to happen, but just uninstall the calculator and see what happens.

 

Eh, no.

Despite being difficult, uninstalling the calculator does nothing to fix the actual cause.

Use regedit and check these two locations:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\shell\open\command
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

Both should have a value of "%1" %*

Do they?

Well, to start, do you know where to uninstall it from exactly?

--You didn't tell the user where to go to uninstall it.

After going through the trouble of removing a Windows component, you need the CD to put it back. If the user doesn't have the CD....well?

Not only that once you uninstall it, whatever was calling it in the registry will give errors.

More trouble than its worth. Best to find the cause, because under no circumstance will calc.exe itself be the culprit.
