I've been aware that there are different versions of Win7. In many case each manufacturer of a PC loads a Win7 that has small differences and features.
I have two Lenovo PCs running Win7 that I purchased within a couple of months of each other about 6 years ago. I thought, at the time, that they were exactly the same. I discovered after using them for a while that there were small differences. Obviously, different versions of Win7.
When PC#2 crashed and burned recently (power blip during a update) I finally had to send it to a repair shop to get it running again. The tech that fixed it told me that the O/S (Win7) was a mess and he replaced it with a complete? Win7 that got it running as before. He saved all my programs, data, short-cuts, etc. I didn't have to re-install anything.
But, (ah... the big but) the Win7 version he loaded had a very annoying feature that I had never seen before. When I put my mouse on a task bar program short-cut a small slightly transparent pop-up appears showing me the window of that program if it's running minimized. Sometimes two.
I found a couple of entries that explained how to turn that feature off (for Win10) and it involved changing the registry to delay that function long enough to make it appear that it wasn't doing the pop-up.
For years I have avoided making any changes to the registry. Scary stuff, that.
I'm hoping someone can tell me how to stop those task bar pop-ups in Win7 without messing with the registry.
If the answer is it can only be done by changing the registry than I guess I'll just have to live with it.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Go to control panel > Folder Options ....Select the middle "VIEW" tab... scroll down till you see.... "show pop-up description for folder and desktop items"

Un-select the box and see if that helps. If it not helping , return and set it back as it was.

If you're not wanting to edit the registry then I'd recommend using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to do it for you.
Just run the program and under Hovering select the option Nothing.

Imandy - That box was already un-selected (default?)
-nullptr - Worked great! Thanks much.
