I like many of the programs from Britain and the DVDs are regional coded "2" so I have to switch my PC drive back and forth to play those DVDs. Win7 limits the number of times you can switch.
Is there a way you can reset that value once it reaches zero?
    Thanks

Back when PCs had DVD drives there was a site that made region free firmware for various drives, might Google that. Also wasn't that the purpose of AnyDVD (ElcomSoft, then SlySoft, now Red Fox). To bypass the legality SlySoft sold the protection remover AnyDVD separate from the CloneDVD program.

foogoo said;"Back when PCs had DVD drives ..." I didn't know that manufacturers had stopped making PCs without a DVD drive.
Anyway, Eldon strikes again - I have had VLC on both my PCs for years. When I inserted the Region 2 DVD into my drive and clicked on "Play with VLC" it worked just fine as did the "record" option. I am able to play the DVD on my PC and I'm going to see if I can use that record function to produce a video file that I can burn that will not have a regional block.
I was under the impression that this regional switching was a Win7 O/S function and really had nothing to do with the drive. I've worn out and replaced the drive in the past and I don't recall that had any effect on the "switching" restriction.
I thought that Win7 just kept track of the number of times you switched and when it reached 5 that number became zero. So if you could just change that number back to 5, you would be able to continue to switch.
Having Windows tell you what to do and how they would allow you to do it is extremely aggravating to me and a big reason why I haven't installed Win10
    Thanks again to Eldon.

When was the last time you bought a computer? Ever seen a Dell Optiplex 3050? Heck, last time I bought software the DVD case had a link to download the software in the case - no disc.

    FYI
Newer DVD drives use RPC-2 storing the counter for the region code changes in the drive's firmware. Prior to this the counter was stored in the (Windows) registry. A simple edit could reset the counter.

Using a media player like VLC is one option to ignore the disk's region code.
Another is to copy or rip the disk with software that has the option to remove the region code.
The latter may be illegal in some countries, states or jurisdictions.

I haven't optical had drives in computers I purchased in 2011 and 2013. You adjust. Besides, DVDs take up room and we are in our 70's we are trying to downsize for the day we leave our home. I can store way more mp3 files and mp4 files than CDs and DVDs. I have a micro sd card with 30 movies on it.
