How did my photos become MIX Files...help!

    A while back I moved some old saved photos from one computer to another when I had two computers networked. Now I find that three of the photos won't open with any program (and I've tried at least a dozen...including IE, and numerous photo software applications). The photos in question now show as MIX Files. What the heck is a MIX File? I tried to rename them with a jpg extension, but that didn't work, tried putting them on the clipboard and pasting them into different applications, and that didn't work either. Every program says it can't identify the format.

    Right now, the only way I can view and try to open the photos is through Explorer/My Photos.

    Since I did this close to a year ago, it's possible that I added these photos differently along the way, but I doubt that would be the case because they're all part of a group of wedding photos.

    Really appreciate any advice and/or suggestions.

    MIX files are........ Microsoft Picture It files and was a closed proprietary non-standard format for use with that app only.

    Do you have that software or have had it installed?


    I have heard/read that .Mix files will open/import into OfficeXP ( 2002 ) or Office2003 .... not got a mix file to hand to test that with tho.


    found one and a Free Program I use XNView opened it ok... then you can save it off to JPG
