How do device drive in config.sys on floppy?

    Hi all,

    I'm working my way through a crisis on my Win XP Pro x64 system. The mouse started acting up on Tuesday, figured I'd reboot...it posted, loaded Windoze to the "Press Crtl-Alt-Del to login" and then maybe 10 sec later...BSD :puke

    I've tried a number of recovery strategies, but still no such luck.

    I've purchased SpinRite and created a boot floppy - but I do not know how to create and specify the device drivers on the floppy so that when I boot from it the system will see the ULi SATA RAID-0 (striped) C: drive so that SpinRite can work on it.

    The documentation only says how to create a config.sys for the floppy when you have access to the config.sys for the system. Unfortunately, even when I used the Windoze Startup disk to get the the R console it will only do a DIR of the C: but will not copy the config.sys to the floppy (nor will it print it to the screen.)

    When I use the ASUS CD-ROM to create a ULI drivers floppy, the files that are on this floppy for XP 64 are:
    m5288.sys
    txtsetup.oem
    ULISATA.INF

    Can anyone tell me how I can create a config.sys for the boot floppy that will tell the system to load the drivers for the ULI controller on the mobo?

    Do I simply make a plain text file, named config.sys, and put the following statement in it:

    DEVICE = M5288.SYS

    And then copy all of the three files listed above, or just the m5288.sys, at the root of the floppy? Or is the DEVICE = value different?

    Thank you very much in advance for any and all advice and help! I would like to at least be able to get the system recovered enough to get the data files that are in Docs and Settings copied off of the striped (which I won't do again!) drive before I scrape and reload...probably on new drives!

    Cheers,
    Popeye.Tom
