    Hi
I have 'REDTEN' pc system - p4 foxconn 945gz motherboard. The mobo has
only one ide connector with a hard drive and dvd ram writer attached. There are 'sata' connectors available. Please advise how I attach a second hard drive making it the 'master' and the original the 'slave'
regards and many thanx in anticipation

Just purchase a SATA hard drive and a SATA cable and you will find that the SATA drives are attached one per cable and one per connector meaning that master and slave is no longer an issue. Your main hard drive and DVD drive can remain on IDE without needing to be touched.

Please be aware that you may also need a molex to SATA power converter for the power or your new drive.

Please post back if you need more help.

    Hi
Many thanx for prompt response. I have a spare hdd that I wish to use - seagate barracuda 7200 model st3250623a I understand I need a sata ide convertor which I have ordered.
My query is do I have to set existing ide to slave and the newly fitted seagate to master attaching it to sata 1 on mobo or do they work automatically as slave and master as the sata takes priority
    regards
