How do I back up my address book in Outlook?

We have Microsoft Office 2000 professional. We'd like to back up our address book so we can do a re-format. When we reload, we're going to load Office XP. I'm assuming that there shouldn't be a problem transferring my address book from one to the other (will there be?) but I can't even figure out how to back up the address book at all.

The ace I have up my sleeve is that my PDA works with Outlook and it has my address book on it. I figure that after the format, I can sync and have that do it, but I'd rather have it on disc if possible.

    Any ideas?

search for *.PST and back them up.

that holds all of your mail, address, journal entries, calendar etc.. but it does hold your account info. No passwords.

    To restore.
AFTER you install office again..load up outlook so that it can create a pst file, now close it... then do a search for outlook.pst on the drive and copy your backup pst file OVER the outlook.pst file that was created on the new install.

Open outlook and it may prompt you with some shortcut changes.. just hit yes to everything.

one last thing. If you're on Windows XP then you'll have to grab all the pst files from both yours and erics profiles or one of you may not be happy ;)

I have used Kodo's method many times, works the charm....

I have several email accounts set up in Outlook... is there anyway to import those over... seems I always have to recreate them

The only round about way I know is to create the account in outlook express and export each account as an IAF file and then import the iaf file back to outlook express then import that account into outlook from OE.. kind of a drawn out process but it works.

Hmmm... looks like my tried and true method of going to the list of accounts and hitting the Prnt Screen key and then re-setting them up later is still just fine...

    Oh well
