How do I boot from a cd?

    I have a copy of a Linux ubuntu live cd. First try at Linux. I changed my boot sequence to boot cd first, when I reboot it boots up xp. Also,I have made a partion to install mepis on how do I boot into it to install it,do I have to format it first,what do I format it with if I do? TIA. :)

    If your CD is set to boot, it should work, unless the image burned incorrectly. Try another bootable CD. Double check CD is first drive in the BIOS it is booting from just in case.

    If you have a partition already installed, any version of Linux will format it correctly on install. Just make sure you pick the right partition on install :) I typically format a partition as FAT32 or linux so it stands apart from my NTFS drive when it comes time to install Linux just as a precaution.
