How do I burn my drive to an .iso for backup?

    I've heard Norton ghost was good but the version i have is old i think and only uses fat32, my win xp drive is ntfs, reguardless of what OS it is, say i have linux, how do I back my whole drive up into an .ISO so if i have any problems i can just plug my external usb harddrive in and reformat the drive with the backed up .iso? any help would help, thanks

    For your situation, you need the CMD version of Ghost and you need to operate it from a bootable CD, then you will be able to create an image of any drive you have (FAT32, NTFS, EXT3...etc)

    Are you using Windows XP? There's a free CD burner that will do this for you called CDBurnerXP. You can get more info. about it here. Plus, you get a good CD burner.

    No backup software creates an ISO, as far as I know. Ghost uses the gho extension on the CDs/DVDs it creates and True Image uses tib.
    Having used both of those, I prefer TI. You install the program, create the rescue CD from within TI. You turn off the computer and boot from the rescue CD. TI will create a RAM disk and run from there without windows loading. You select "create an image", it will see your burner(s) and/or any external USB devices (burners or hard drives) that are attached and you select if you want to burn the CDs/DVDs or store the image on an external hd.
