I think the screen shot pretty much sums it up.

The PC is running XP Pro SP2. It's a clean install (hasn't even been activated yet).

    Thanks! :)

    Right click/properties/shortcut ...change icon.

I already tried that and it doesn't work (that's why I posted here ;) ). Because it's a drive listed in My Computer, it doesn't have the usual options available like a normal shortcut would.

(but maybe I overlooked something  I'll take another look at it tomorrow and I'll see what's up)

    Thanks!

Open the autorun.inf file and change the icon location from there.

The file resides on the medium itself, and is hidden.

There's nothing in the drive/media slot. What we're seeing in the screenshot above is what we'd see when we open My Computer. There's no CDs in any drives, and no media in the media slots. It seems the default Windows icon for that drive has been dis-associated somehow.

EDIT- now that I'm thinking about it, it may be a "ghost" icon of a USB flash drive that has since been removed... I really have to take another look at the PC...

I swear you find the strangest problems man. Haha. And I have NO clue how to fix that, except maybe there's a place somewhere in the registry that you might be able to fix it. Actually, since the registry is Windows' brain, I'm SURE there's a fix for it in there somewhere... but where, amongst the millions of keys, I haven't a clue.

    Rebuild the icon cache then.

In XP: Use the TweakUI powertoy.

    In Vista: Delete iconcache.db in c:\users\profile name\appdata\local.

It is hidden, and you will need to stop explorer.exe from task manager first, so its best to open a cmd.exe prompt at this location and then kill explorer, then del iconcache.db.

Restarting explorer or the computer will rebuild the file.
