How do I deal with people like these?

Person 1: The ability to sit on our *** for long hours
Person 1: Staring at a computer screen?
Person 1: Playing mediocre games that require no skill

Person 2: the people who PLAY IT couldn't spell it right

Person 1: Again, average intelligence playing a game that is worthy for ten year olds

People tell me to block them but every time I try, they IM me under a different name. They constantly pop up conference invites in the middle of a full-screen game (after I told them not to), mock my interests, and say I'm worthless because I "waste my life on a piece of plastic" (my answer: "No, silicon"). Even if I set my IM list so nobody off the list can contact me, they would start emailing me or sending messages on forums. And wouldn't stop repeating themselves until I reply. Then the abuse starts.

Any ideas? :cry

 

youre arguing about a game. my idea is dont respond. your responses give more for people to poke fun at.

 

it is kind of ironic that people would spend that much time on their computer trying to find ways of insulting you for using a computer.

 

I agree with Kestrel13! - why continue letting people get to you like that? They are not worth your time, they are:crap compared to you!!

I found something that worked. I was playing Civilization and they kept trying to invite me to a conference which would pop up over full-screen app. So I joined, said "I'm Civving" then ignored them. Later on I looked at the chat log:

 

As a fellow PC gamer, I am appalled and offended that you would keep your IM on while playing a game. Blasphemer! :mad

Just kidding. I play mainly RPGs and immersion suffers hugely when an IM window pops up in mid-cutscene.

If you play Civ IV, check out the Beyond the Sword expansion pack. I don't play the Civ games at all, but I got the expansion for my husband for his birthday, and he really loves it. I barely see him in the evenings now. LOL

 

im just wondering, but why do you people's im windows pop up during full screen apps??

i just set mine to "busy when running full screen apps" and it doesnt alert me when i get a notification.

You've my sympathies but dang it, I've got my own problem to deal with. How do I deal with people like *me*? Everywhere I go, well, there I am. Every question I ask I've got some smart *** answer to. Everytime I tell myself, "Shut up!" I get the reply, "NO, *U* shut up." Whenever I achieve some measure of quietude I bust in with some cockamamy (sp?) idea. "Let it float by like a cloud says my Yoga instructor." Uh, okay, but clouds always turn into things don't they? Rabbits, doves, ships...whate'erl

My only release was to get a bigger amplifier that had 14 not 10 as the highest setting. That worked. Of course there's still some small nagging voice that tells me, " Hey, shouldn't you be doing something 'productive' with your life?" Well at least that's an eZ question to answer. "Like what Senor know nada?..." and proceed with riffing--LOUDER.

So, you've my empathy but the only answer I can give you (not being technically proficient..., "Oh yeah, why don't you do do that!" (ack, see what I mean?) is for you to get a nice Martin or flute or...well whatever, and... aaaaa, I'm not one for giving advice.

Um, Staghart... cut back on the location info, please. It's causing a much unflattering sideways scrollbar at the bottom of my screen, but more importantly it causes your post to go outside of the screen and makes it very hard to read, since I need to scroll sideways to see the last third of every line of it. If you're at all interested in having people read your posts, you may want to cut that long-winded location info.

Just saying.

 

Turn off the IM while you're playing a game. Like Mimsy, I'm offended that anyone would be talking to someone they aren't playing against.

Btw, the *reason* I did that is that it seemed I'd such limited space to say anything of a personal/autobiographic nature that I was just trying to cuhraammm everything I could anywhere it would fit. K? Otay.
