"For the best results you should use PageDefrag in conjunction with a commercial defragmentation utility or the free Contig defragmenter at http://www.sysinternals.com/contig.htm"

Thats a command line utility too, some may be intimidated by that. Anyhow, when you go to the link from the first program, it tells you yet another program you should use after that. So, they have you going to 3 different programs. Im with Kodo on this one.

Link fixed. Without making the thread more confusing, can you explain why? Not because I doubt you, or dont think you know, but because I have not used either program in some time and am in the dark. O&O does not defrag the MFT and swap?

    Thanks!

Well, before I found out about O&O I had checked out PageDefrag. And like in one of your former posts, I also read that it works best along side a commercial defragging program. So I searched and found O&O :D .

Would not a program for defragging locked system files such as pagefile.sys and the registry hives SAM, system, SECURITY, software and default be best done at boot time?...my personal opinion is that it would be. Therefore I choose to use both ;) .

    Regards,
    Jade.

I'm curious as to why you think this?

I'm taking a stab at this even though I may think you're completely talking about something else. For the boot time thing, it's better to do it then before the log-in because the highest account in windows is SYSTEM so you can possibly run it as SYSTEM before you log-in? Unless you want root yourself to run a defrag program :p

if you defrag using an ACCESS method, it makes no difference.

Good info, thanks for informing me. I install so much crap here that I simply recover from an image to save time and grief, so theres rarely to never a need for me to defragment my swapfile.
