I have a file that I am trying to delete it is called comco.dll and it is in the windows\system32 directory. It contains a Backdoor Virus on it that AVG and PC-Cillin detects but cannot do anything to either heal it or remove it. Anyone have any ideas on how I can delete it?

If Safe Mode fails, then you can try POCKET KILLBOX or something like MoveOnBoot.

Also if you make a note of the file path you can delete it using the recovery console you will need a copy of xp though :)

It's available HERE if that's the same program.

Let's try to support this site which supports us.

BTW, it specifies that it overwrites data and removes sensitive data, not exactly the same as deleting a single file or folder, unless it has that feature.

I just tried to download killbox from this site and I got this message.

I only have one specific file to delete :( Any other ideas?

This isn't a program that won't delete, it's a movie. Will that still work?

WolfBrother have you tried the Unlocker? It is the simplest and the first one I would try. Just click the "Unlock All" button after the window opens when attempting to delete your file.

What is the "unlocker"? I've never heard of it.

Yeah I've never heard of a movie not deleting either. But when I click to delete it opens the window showing that it's deleting. But no information is removed. It just shows the computer thinking. The little files fly to the trash can over and over, but it always stays at 0kps

The underlined "Unlocker" in above post is a link. But if you are getting as far as the deleting window it will probably not be of any use. It is only for when you get the "cannot delete: file is in use" error message. :(

This sounds as though something has attached itself to the registry.
    download Ccleaner

    http://majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

run it twice in both cleaner and registry let it clean anything it find,it is perfectly safe and just might find the file that is causing the problem.

I'll try that :) I already ran the malware program and it found 1 item. . a trojan of some kind. Don't remember exactly. File still won't delete though. I'll try CCleaner now

Have you tried a chkdsk on your drive? Right click the drive in my computer and check both options. Maybe it is an index error.

The file's gone. . . and I don't know exactly how I got rid of it. I ran quite a few cleaners and such and it wouldn't go. I was going to run the chkdsk but decided to run a defrag first. After the defrag I tried to delete the file again and it worked.

I've never heard of a defrag doing something like that so I'm not really sure what made it work. But it's gone now.

    Glad it gone.
It does not matter how it happened just that it's gone.
