    Hi,

Can anybody help I brought a pc a few weeks ago which came with a set of speakers. They told me a sound card had been installed but I have tried every way to make the spekers work no joy. When I go to accessories then entertainment then volume control it says there are no active mixer devices availble to install devices go to control panel click printers and other hardware then click click add hardware. Can anybody tell me how I can do a search to find out if the sound card has been installed? I have spoken to the guy at the store he talks to me like I am stupid and says all the pc's come with a sound card helpppppppppppp

I have 2 speakers (Kinyo) they have both run to one lead I have three coloured slots at the back of the pc green pink and blue I think they are working as when I plug them in the speakers make a noise. I have pluged the main plug that also leads off the two speakers into the mains.

Ok here goes I went into the deivce manager tab clicked on soudn video and game controllers and had the following:

    Audio Codecs
    Legacy Audio Drivers
    Media Control Devices
    Standard Game Port
    Video Codecs

There was no mention of a sound card where can I go from here?

    Thanks Tara

    Hello,

Well it looks like your sound is hooked up. Do you have the speakers plugged into the green connection? Silly question but do you have the speakers turned on/plugged in---it happens! Next under control panel-sound and audio devices, under the "Volume tab" is it turned up, is it muted, under "speaker volume" is it up?

Under the audio tab under the "sound playback" click the "volume" button and see if anything is muted and is turned up.

good luck and hope it helps

Hi yes all plugged in and ready to go when I try and go into the accessories then entertainment then volume control it says says there are no active mixer devices availble to install devices go to control panel click printers and other hardware then click click add hardware.

    Then I tried the following:

I just went into my help and support centre and tried the following:

    To play system sounds
Open Sounds and Audio Devices Properties in Control Panel.
On the Sounds tab, under Program events, pick any event, such as Asterisk.
Under Sounds, select any sound, such as Chord.
    Click the play button.

The play button was blanked out so I could not click on it, what do think sound card installed or not?

Oops, When I compared your list (under device manager) to mine I sorta missed that you were missing something that might be the problem. I do not think you have a device installed.

Are your sound ports on your motherboard or is it a seperate card? (onboard would mean that it is grouped with all of the other connectors.) Either way, do you have setup discs? They might have the drivers on them. If not you will have to download them from the appropriate website. BTW have you tried running the "add new hardware wizard" or does one pop up when you boot up. What os are you using?

    sorry about the confusion.
