    Hello,

I have an old Gateway 450SX4 notebook whose ac connector has been damaged. It moves rather freely from side to side. I don't know if it can be re-soldered or if it can be replaced, and I don't know how to access it.
    Can you provide any insight?

    Thanks

It appears this is the type of power jack that solders directly to the motherboard:

Unless you are extremely experienced at soldering, this is a repair best left to a professional. A good PC repair shop should charge between $100 - $125 for the repair (it takes about 2 hours to disassemble the PC, replace the jack and reassemble it).

Although there are listings on eBay that offer mail-in service for less, the cost of packing, shipping and insurance is additional. It's also a good idea to go somewhere that will give you at least a 30 day warranty on the repair.

    Hope this helps. :)
