How do I fix the errors that are causing these two messages?

My computer seems to be working fine but I get the "Control Panel Error Message" everytime I open the control panel. Why do I get this message when everything is working fine and how to I fix the error?

The 16-bit error message happens when I try to update my Video Card Driver. I click on the installer file and I get the error message. I can't update the driver because the error message appears and stops the installation before it starts. What can I do to fix this?

The reason why I want to update my video card driver is cause' NHL 2005 won't display properly. It meets the minimum requirements for the game but the video card is not one of the confirmed video cards that will work to display NHL 2005. A driver update was recomended.

    My specs are:

    Pentium 4
    2 Ghz
    384 Mbs RAM
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
32 Mbs ATI Rage 128 Ultra Video Card

    Hi, Colonel

Try opening windows explorer and navigating to c:\ATI\support\WXP_R128_6_13_3279\

If you can, run SETUP.EXE from there.

If there is no such folder, right click the download. If you're using WINRAR, you can select EXTRACT. Do that then navigate to where it extracted and run setup from there.

Hope this helps. I used to have the same problem with NVIDIA driver.

Thanks, ArchAngel!! That worked! :) :) I don't understand why it wouldn't work the normal way. ??? Who cares though, right? It works now.

Do you have any ideas on the other error message? You did such a good job on the first one. :)

I did a search and it looks like you did the XP2 upgrade.

The solution: disable IPmon32 via msconfig from startup

By unchecking the IPmon32 in the Startup, it eliminates the netsetup.cpl error message. This can be done by going to START - RUN -type in MSCONFIG - select START UP - uncheck IPMON32 - select APPLY - RESTART COMPUTER.

    Hope that works.

    Thank you. Your're 2 for 2. :)

Don't I need the IPmon32 though? I don't know what it does and just ask out of curiousity.

I disabled IPmon32 and my desktop changed to look like a Windows 98 desktop. I re-enabled it cause' I like the look of the XP desktop better.

If it is Spyware I don't care. I have all the necessary spyware removal tools, antivirus, and firewall protection to protect my computer. If it ever tries to access the internet I won't allow it.

    Thanks.

That's funny. I don't even have IPmon32 on my computer, yet it runs just fine.

For the record.. everything I've found online referring to IPMON32.EXE says it's a Verizon internet file. Supposedly it does things like check connection conditions and suchlike, reporting details back to Verizon. It also does other stuff, but it seems as though it's "useless stuff" which strikes me as odd.

The general concensus seems to be that it's not an important file, and soaks up a lot of resources. It's also safe to remove it.

I can't confirm any of this with any sources I trust, so I really don't know if any of that's true. I'd feel a hell of a lot better getting to a Verizon support page that either allowed me to download a new version of the file, or told me how to properly remove it.

By disabling the IPMON32 through the steps you noted:
Is it possible that you're also disabling the program's link to some of the other programs that need to load? (ie- like a Dynamic Linking Library file (DLL?))

Could Verizon's Ipmon32 file replace something else that would otherwise be loaded directly? You say that your system doesn't have the file, and your graphics load correctly. Perhaps you should compare what's listed in your MSCONFIG files?

I get an IPMON32.EXE error every time I boot my system. I still get the Windows XP appearance and stuff, but I suspect that the error is causing issues and SOMETHING appears to be soaking up RAM.

I'm going to try disabling it now, and I'll report back here if I notice any changes.

Ok, I did it, and XP graphics loaded just fine.

No more Ipmon32.exe error messages during startup, though there is currently a warning message that pops-up claiming that I'm running on a "selective startup" system, and then automatically runs what looks to be the MSCONFIG program.

THere's a checkbox to disable that, but for right now I just want to be sure there aren't any further issues stemming from loading up this way before I do.

    Any comments/advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help on disabling IPMON32..
