How Do I Get "DirectShow" Codec?

    I've been trying to watch some vids online but sometimes they won't work cuz they say I need to download the "directshow" codec. I have NO CLUE about codecs!! It's all greek to me!!

    What do I do??

    Does anybody know??

    I'm trying to figure it out but when I google it ...everything tells me to download this file or that file and that scares me cuz I don't want to get a virus!!

    Can anybody help? Please :)

    actually it says it's an "unknown format" and that I may need to install a "directshow" decoder.
