How do I get program drivers off an external HD?

I have Windows 7 on my ASUS laptop. I installed drivers for USB music recording interface (M-Audio) to run with the program ProTools. These two pieces are entirely compatible. I typically use another USB hardware device for recording, which is why I installed new drivers for the new device. When I plugged it in after installing drivers and tried to open pro-tools, it froze so I restarted.

Then I got the endless cycle of BSOD and restart. Safe mode, repair, system restore, and even trying to reinstall windows resulted in BSOD or unexpected errors that could not continue (in the case or Win7 repair or system restore).

So, I swapped out the hard drive for another which was on the computer before (lower GB capacity which is why I swapped originally) and put the buggy one in an external HD enclosure. I was able to boot up on the old HD, plug in the external hard drive via USB and access all the files on the buggy drive.

I talked to a friend who is really good with computers that said I can try deleting the drivers for the USB recording interface on the external.

Can anyone provide any guidance on this? Supposedly there is a way to show what's running related to that product in the Software /Microsoft/windows/current version/run directory and delete anything related to the product.

Thank you so much, I have a lot at stake on this HD and really don't want to format it because a driver screwed it all up =(

Yes, safe mode, repair, system restore, and even trying to reinstall windows resulted in BSOD or 'unexpected error' message

I tried loading hive file from the external drive's windows 7 registry but wasn't able to figure out how to locate the M-Audio drivers...any ideas?
