How Do I Get Windows 10 After Factory Reset

I have a Gateway All in One that was having unresolvable issues probably from a virus. I performed a factory reset back to the OEM Windows 7. I had updated to Windows 10 during the free period prior to the reset and I understand that Windows will recognize the PC motherboard as already having qualified for the upgrade. I'm not sure how to do that as the Windows 10 download at Microsoft is only availble for purchase. Thanks for help.

 

If you had created a system image, with the inbuilt tools, and saved it to a USB stick when you first upgraded to Windows 10, you would have been able to use that. But with no recovery media, just going back to Win 7 with a factory reset means your system is no longer entitled to a free upgrade.
So now, it's a choice of keep Win 7 on that system and maybe in the future buy a new system with Win 10 or actually pay now for a Win 10 licence key.

You can retrieve the situation without having to purchase a Win 10 licence. Download the Media Creation Tool and create recovery media - either DVD or flash drive. Take the Upgrade option and I believe it will recognise that Win 10 has previously been activated on that system and install and activate it again. If you have any important files I would advise backing them up first.

 

I think you will be able to skip this step. Just follow Microsoft's instructions on the link I gave you and Win 10 should install.
