I have Kubuntu installed and I need to install my HP Deskjet 932c Printer so comp will recognize it. How is this done?? I keep getting a error message in system settings.

    This is the error message:

print '/tmp/kde-odiear3rd/kdeprint_gwPwNnWa' : execution failed with message:
Warning: unknown mime-type for "/tmp/kde-odiear3rd/kdeprint_gwPwNnWa" -- using "application/*" Error: no "print" mailcap rules found for type "application/*"

    If you check here http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=HP
the Deskjet 932C is in the installs perfectly section. Be patient and wait for the newest Kubuntu that contains an up to date version of Foomatic, the printer installer program.

Thanks again. I guess I will have to be patient and wait for the upgrade CD to get here for the other software drivers to be updated with it.

Actually, it will not be an upgrade CD. It will be a live CD and there will be an icon on the desktop to install it, after it boots up.
Normally, just as in windows, you would not want to upgrade from v6 to v9. That would be like starting with Windows 95, upgrading to 98, upgrading to XP and then upgrading to Vista!

I have upgraded up to Ubuntu 9.04 and am still have problems installing my HP Deskjet 932c Printer. I down loaded hplip-3.9.8.run to be installed but I don't know how it is to be installed. I have it on my desktop waiting to be installed. Ubuntu recognizes my HP 932c but won't print a test page. Anyone have any suggestions??

Go into the KDE control panel and i think its under peripherals, i'm not positive as i dont use kde... there should be something in there for printing/printer, printer manager and/or default printer.

I know even in gnome you have to hook the printer up, then go into the printing settings and choose the printer form a list, it should auto scan for the printer at that point and give you recommendations on what to choose.

Well there is Ubuntu default is gnome then
    Kubuntu - KDE
    Edubuntu
    Mythbuntu - MYTHTV
    Xubuntu - XFCE4
    .... so on

It is very common for ppl using any ubuntu they dont really specify which desktop they are using, can be a pita at times, but, generally the question will reveal all ;)

UPDATE: I finally got the Printer to test page but only after some updating was done in add/remove applications. Now it is working fine. I was also having issues w/ my sound card until I had to update sound/video applications.
