    Hi,

I have DELL Dimension 8300 CPU.

I just bought a new Philips 21 inch CRT monitor.

It by mistake it came with a 19 inch monitor CD.

How do I install this monitor ? When I hooked it up it asked to put in the CD which I did but it kept searching & I couldn't stop it. So I had to hit the Ctr + Alt + Del to get out of it.

After that the monitor seems to work but I don't understand how without the proper drivers ? Also it seems most sites web pages do not fill the whole screen. I have set up the resolution to 1024 X 768 from desktop settings menu.

I am a newbie to this.

Do I still need the drivers & if yes where can I find them & how do I install them & how do I know they are properly installed ?

Can you Please give any URLs needed & step by step instructions if possible ?

    Thank You in Advance.
    Mike

In reality, monitor drivers arent really needed, in most cases, unless its not a Plug and Pray device.

The monitor driver is usually a "color profile", as I understand it.

Check the Phillips site, if you wish to get the correct driver.

Without the monitor model, I cannot help find it for you though.

    Those links were very useful.

You are right, it doesn't have a driver CD but I still keep getting the dialog box everytime I boot, saying new hardware founs and asking to put in a driver CD or go to the net which is also not able to find any drivers.

    Thank You
    Mike

    Adrynalyne is spot on.

You rarerly need a monitor driver, Windows has native support.

The only thing some graphics professionals need is a colour profile, but that's not your problem.

I would delete it (and any other monitor listing) from Device Manager, reboot and let Windows detect it and see what happens.
