RVM packs are designed to be slipstreamed in to a customized XP install disc. They are NOT meant to be installed in to an existing operating system. If you want to install XP Service Pack 3, use this download. Disregard the fact that it says "Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and Developers ". It will work fine on your stand-alone PC.

Right click My Computer, select Properties. It should tell you right there if SP3 was successfully installed or not.... see the screen shot below....

Oh yeah.... did you restart your PC after the install finished? If you didn't there's a good chance that the install never 'finalized' and the update history now thinks it's a corrupt install.

    Hi

In update history failed updates will continue to be shown as its a history list this is normal, especially as you where trying a different SP3 version file that failed... this is likely what that update history is refering too, but as dlb points out check My Computer for SP3 listed and also if its listed in Add/Remove its likely its installed ok, could just run Windows Update again to check (possibly goto the online Windows Update and run that http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/V6/default.aspx?ln=en-us as its can at times clear up the list.

If your not offered SP3 again for install then you should be ok.

Here is one of my fails from Vista SP1 just to show the history listing is normal.
