I'm helping my grandson with his homework and he is running Vista and Word 2007. I use neither so I can't figure out how to help with his problem.
When he opens Word, to do a new document it always open an existing file he saved once before.
I know in older versions of Word it looked for Normal.dot for a blank page but apparently that's changed.
If we erase his existing opening document and save it what should it be saved as to be the default opening blank sheet?
I hope I explained sufficiently. Any help will be really appreciated.
Please help make grandpa look like a hero.;)

That should work, but an easier way would be to go on the desktop(or any folder), right click, go to New, then click Word Document. Rename it if u want, then double click it.

If you right click the document and then click> open with < and open it with word or what ever you want to open it with, if you want to save it just click file top left then click > on the drop down list save or save as !
    Hope this helps Granpa !;)

There's an easy way and a harder way to open a new blank document:

Harder way: From any Word document, click the Windows logo at the top-left corner of the page and select "New." Then, double-click on Blank Document, and a new, blank page will open up.

Easy way: To set up the "easy way" - from any Word document, right-click on the Ribbon and select "Customize QuickAccess Toolbar." From the list of Commands on the left side, select "New," and put that icon into your QuickAccess Toolbar. Then in the future, whenever you want a new page, all you have to do is click the New icon, and Voila! a new page appears.

PS I have an extensive list of icons in my QuickAccess Toolbar so that pretty much any function that I do frequently, is there -- and I don't have to go searching for it, because it's right on the screen all of the time --- much like the way I had it set up in Office 2003, which I loved!!!

    You mean you don't love 2007 ! ;) :-D

I like your icon idea, and wish I'd thought of it. :cool

    Thanks, Earthling.

Well, let's just say that, for someone who came to Office 2007 kicking and screaming, I have pretty much tamed the beast, and have made it fairly manageable. So, in the year that I've been using 2007 I guess I would admit that I've learned to, at least, like it a lot, and I also admit that visually, it's much more graphically appealing than 2003. (But I make a number of the functions as similar to 2003 as I can, because I still think that 2003 was more user friendly and made a lot more sense to me in the way that functions were set up!)
