Hello Thank you in advance for looking at my question:

I have backed up my my HP Laptop using the Windows 7 backup tool to my Seagate External Hard drive. However, the laptop was stolen and I need to access some of the files and programs from the pc. I would like to be pointed in the right direction to find the steps necessary to restore it. I must be searching wrong keywords because I can't find out how to do this and there must be a way.

Thank you responding, but the information doesn't help me, because it is telling how to restore a computer the original information came from. I no long have that pc so I want to put it onto another computer that also is running another version of Windows 7. How do I do this?

    Again Thank you in advance,

    Cynthia

Unfortunately, you can't. The image you created with Windows 7 is tied to the computer it was created from. This is largely due to the Product Key. I thought you had recovered the laptop. Sorry for the assumption. :-o

Geez, the laptop being stolen has opened a can of worms for you. I hope whomever stole it can't access it and your personal data.
