I am new to the Vista. I have FAHMON installed, it works great if I right click it and run it as an admin. How do I make it where I just click on it and it works?

Right-click and pick Properties. Under the Compatibility tab will be a box labeled "Run as Administrator". Check it and hit the OK button,

Do you have user account control enabled?
If you do you'll probably have to turn it off if you dont want to use right-click->run as admin.

To disable UAC go to start->control panel->User Accounts and Family Safety->User Accounts->Turn User Account Control On or Off

    Hi Fred

Personally I would never suggest turning off UAC as you loose a good layer of security, while some may argue this, many do end up in malware removal.

So my suggestion and I hope I make this clear enough is that IF you trust an application and its download location then you can run specific applications as full admin, thus bypassing UAC prompts and this was a post I made the other day on this very subject

Not advisable to turn UAC off as mentioned, as you loose that level of security but thats the users prerogative, however the yes part is try this Elevator (SkipUAC) from Martin Zugec ( Turning off UAC is not advisable for all unless you know what your doing and the concequesnces of bypassing UAC for any application as we all know some can be rouge apps )

What you do is to copy the SkipUAC folder to C: drive or doesnt matter if its on another, then right click the application and choose properties, then in the target box change the syntax to read C:\SkipUAC\ElevatorRunner.exe "C:\Program Files\CCleaner\ccleaner.exe" as an example and it will run without UAC interfearing, will need to untick unknown application popup you get first time you run this. *DO have to warn that this is unsafe practice and only do this IF you truely trust an application as the option to do any of this to bypass UAC is your own*

NB. bold bit above is what you need and the other part inside the ""s is the actual file target, sample of me running CCleaner using SkipUAC and the syntax used.

other method of adding the highest privelidge running to a task is to add it to the scheduled processes as if FAHMON is not already in Task Schedulers list of apps then add it so that it runs on boot if you want it to do so, if its their already or you add it, then you can change its mode to full admin so that from boot it runs and to find and change that option so that it runs in high privilege mode I posted here with the route to do this for another app so just change Clearmem to FAHMON.

Thanks for the info Halo. I am apparently doing something wrong. It changed the FAHMon Icon on the Startup, but I still get the UAC nag when I try to start it. I downloaded, installed the elevater, moved it to the C: using Windows Exlorer.

C:\SkipUAC\ElevatorRunner.exe "C:\Program Files\FahMon\fahmon.exe" is the target of the Icon. Thanks for the help.

I nixed the UAC. Done at my own risk, I know. Thanks for your time.
