How do I sell photos online?

My mom has a photography buissness and wants to put her photos on the web. Can anyone recommend me to a company that will build her a site to sell her photos for her and handle the finacial part of e-commernce. If not, I could easily design a website for her, but I have no idea how to give customers the opportunity to purchace photos online with their creditcard. Is there software available to let me do that? I would be grateful for any advice on how to get her buissness up and running on the World Wide Web.

 

The best way is probably to build your own site since it will be customized and individualistic. Coppermine is pretty good and has add-on shopping cart modules.
Some have merged a front end with their gallery so as to be a more presentable website (eg: mambo/joomla with coppermine).

Of course all that requires a bit of work and configuration (plus website hosting). Places like Shutterfly is a very simple all-in one solution and provides a lot (mugs, magnets, etc). Of course you would have to pay hosting fee but you would get commissions.
There are other similar sites but I can't think of any right now (running out the door).

istockphoto has a really nice layout and the biggest image resource on the net! Ive had an account with them for about 1yr and have used their services for numerious projects. Not too sure what your mom wants per image but Istock has low returns at first. Also if your going to buld a website, take a look at bananalbum (Google Search) for JalAlbum. I'm afraid I probably won't be building a website for her photos. My mom would like to get her buissness up and running as soon as possible and my schedule's been pretty busy this summer. I will, however, be building the website for my friend's World of WarCraft guild. I'll let you know when that's complete and uploaded. Thanks guys. You've been a great help.
